LPIC 1 – 101:

System Architecture

  – Mastering the basics of operating system installation and startup.
• Runlevel / boot option configuration, shutdown and system reboot
  – Mastering the basics of boot configuration management, runlevel management, switching to single-user mode, and warning settings when users change boot/runlevel options.

Installing the Linux environment and package management

• Hard disk configuration
  – Mastering the basics of hard disk partitioning for Linux operating system installation.
• Installing the boot manager
  – Mastering the selection, installation, and configuration of the boot manager.
• Managing shared libraries
  – Mastering the management and installation of libraries required by installed programs and services.
• Using Debian package management
  – Mastering package management using Debian tools for this purpose.
• Using RPM and YUM package management
  – Mastering package management using RPM, YUM, and Zypper.

• Using the command line

  – Mastering the installation and configuration of desktop environments.

  – Mastering various Linux desktop environments.

  – Mastering the basic concepts of accessibility settings within desktop environments.

Administrative tasks

• Managing user and group accounts
  – Mastering the basics of user account and group management.
• Automating administration
  – Mastering the use of cron and system timers to run jobs.
• Localization and internationalization
  – Mastering operating system localization in multiple languages and time zones.

Basic system services

• System time
  – Mastering system time and clock synchronization.
• System logging configuration
  – Mastering configuration of the system logging daemon, configuration of the journal subsystem, and alternative logging systems.
• Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) – basics
  – Mastering open-source MTA programs, basic mail forwarding configuration, and mail aliases.
• Printer and print management
  – Mastering printer and print management, adding and removing print jobs.

Network fundamentals

• Internet protocol basics
  – Mastering private and public IP addresses, TCP, UDP ports, and services.
• Network configuration
  – Mastering network configuration on a Linux host.
• Troubleshooting network issues
  – Mastering network configuration and troubleshooting within it.
• Client-side DNS configuration
  Mastering DNS server settings.

Security

• Administrative security tasks
  – Mastering local security policies and client-side security protocols.
• Security settings
  – Mastering basic security services.
• Data encryption
  – Mastering data encryption, public and private keys, and SSH configuration.

Each participant receives the book “Linux System Administration – Cookbook” by Adam K. Dean. The book helps you install and manage Linux servers locally or in the cloud, understand Linux administration across distributions, work with containers, and automate administration, etc.

Note: For online courses, the literature is provided only in digital format.

Upon completing the LPIC-1: Linux Administrator course, the participant receives an IT CENTAR certificate. If interested, participants can also obtain the official LPIC-1 certification at IT Centar.

Exam details:

• The certification is valid for 5 years, unless a higher level is achieved.
• Passing exams 101 and 102 is required. Each 90-minute exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions.

Basic computer literacy, experience with virtual environments (VMware, VirtualBox, KVM, etc.), operating systems, and computer networks is recommended.
